Alex Colon (born )[1] appeared as Mr. Gomez, a boxing trainer who trains Sam, who leaps into boxer Clarence "Kid" Cody, who promised to win a local championship bout to donate money to the parish of Sister Angela, a nun who's his new manager, to build a new chapel for her parish in 1974 Sacremento, CA in the Season One episode of Quantum Leap titled "The Right Hand of God".
Life and career[]
Born in San Juan. Puerto Rico, Colon moved to New York and made his stage debut in 1970 as the impudent delivery boy in Neil Simon's uncharacteristically somber “The Gingerbread Lady” at the Plymouth Theater. He later directed an L.A. Actors Theater workshop presentation of Miguel Pinero's “Short Eyes,” which saw full treatments by Ralph Waite at the Westwood Playhouse and by Joe Papp at Lincoln Center in New York in 1974.[1]
In New York, Colon directed for the Nosotros Theater and New York's Puerto Rican Traveling Theater.[1]
Colon's early film work included the films The Cross and the Switchblade (1970), The Hospital (1971), Harry and Tonto (1974) the NBC-TV movie The Raid on Entebbe (1976) and When You Comin’ Back, Red Ryder? (1979). More recent appearances included Back Roads, Deal of the Century, Death of an Angel, Deep Cover starring Laurence Fishburne, Clarence Williams III of Mod Squad TV series fame, and Gregory Sierra of Sanford and Son and Barney Miller series' fame, The Mighty Quinn, with Denzel Washington and Robert Townsend, and Red Scorpion.[1] Colon also appeared in several miniseries and in many television shows in guest appearances, and many TV movies, as well.[1]
Death[]
Alex died in Los Angeles in 1995 at age 53, after a prolonged illness.[1] He was survived by a sister and a daughter.
