Dr. Beckett meets the evil leaper Alia for the first time.
The Evil Leapers are an evil organization, which works similar to Sam and his project. But this group is evil, and they leap in order to try to put wrong what once went right, often in opposition to the work of the Quantum Leap project.
History behind "The Evil Leapers"[]
The origins of the Evil Leaper project is unknown, but it is presumed to have been based on Sam Beckett's Quantum Leap Project, and probably originate from further in the future than Sam.

One such evil leaper was Alia (played by Renée Coleman), who was eventually convinced by Sam to turn good, and managed to break out of the control of the Evil Leaper project. Like Dr. Beckett, she was trying to get back home to her own time.
Zoey (played by Carolyn Seymour), another evil leaper who was sent leaping to kill her (unsuccessfully), had been the Hologram of the project. Zoey attempted to kill Alia in the episode Revenge of The Evil Leaper by leaping into a women's prison, where Alia and Sam leaped. An almost comically quirky scientist named Thames (Hinton Battle) replaced her as the hologram, attempting to guide her in the murderous pursuit of both Sam and Alia.

The Evil Leaper project appears to function almost identically to Sam's, except that its goal is to put wrong what once went right. It is probable that the Evil Leaper project was based on Sam's project, as it also includes leapers, holograms, a supercomputer, an equivalent of an imaging chamber and a handlink.

The Evil Leaper project is run by Lothos (Ziggy's evil computer counterpart). Unlike Ziggy in the original series, Lothos is mentioned as having control of the leaps, and evidently chooses the assignments of the leapers.
It is strongly implied that at least some of the Evil Leapers are coerced into leaping, as Alia mentioned being tortured after having failed a mission, and on multiple occasions expressed the wish to stop leaping and return home.

- The original script for Deliver Us From Evil mentions that the Evil Leapers come from the year 2020 - however, as this was not mentioned in the episode itself, it is not necessarily canon.
