Jonathan "Jon" Gries (lso known under names Jon Francis and Jonathan Gries;born July 17, 1957) appears in the uncredited role of Roscoe the bookie of boxer Clarence "Kid" Cody, whom Dr. Samuel Beckett leaps into in the Season 1 episode of Quantum Leap titled "The Right Hand of God" (episode #4).

He also portrays band member Flash McGrath in the Season 3 episode of Quantum Leap titled "Glitter Rock". He wants his fellow King Thunder bandmate, Tonic, to perform one of his songs.

Life and career[]

A former child turned adult actor, writer and director, Jon is best known for playing Uncle Rico ("Back in '82") in the movie Napoleon Dynamite and is also known for his role as Lazlo Hollyfeld in the 1985 comedy film Real Genius. Gries played the role of a terrorist in season two of the hit show 24. Gries also played a werewolf henchman in the horror/comedy sequel Fright Night II (he also played a werewolf in The NBC-TV Saturday morining animated series Monster Squad). His most notable television roles are Broots on the NBC series The Pretender and Shawn on the FOX sitcom series Martin during the first two seasons.

Born in Glendale, CA, the son of Mary Eleanor Munday, an actress, and Thomas Stephen "Tom" Gries, a writer, director, and producer.[1][2][3] His first film role came at the age of 11, when he played the Boy Horace in the Charlton Heston film Will Penny, which was written and directed by his father. Gries also appeared in the Seinfeld episode "The Beard" as a bum whom Kramer gives Chinese leftovers to but requests to get the Tupperware back from. Jon also played the spree killer and vigilante Clifford Walsh in the Season 9 episode of the ABC-TV series Criminal Minds titled "The Road Home".

Personal life[]

Jon does not drink milk and eats very little red meat. And while he chewed pieces, he refused to swallow the steaks his character Uncle Rico eats in Napoleon Dynamite.
