Tom Boyd (born on) worked on Quantum Leap as an oboe soloist in various segments in a total of 63 episodes of the series, beginning with the series pilot episode. "Genesis: Part 1"; the final episode he was involved with was "Unchained" in Season 4 (episode #10). The incredibly wide and diverse audience that Tom reaches through his oboe performances on over 1,400 motion picture film scores makes him one of the most heard oboe players on the planet today.
A graduate of Julliard School of Music, Tom won the Principal Oboe position in The Honolulu Symphony at the age of 21. After about 10 years of performing the standard orchestral repertoire of beloved greats such as Beethoven and Brahms as well as surfing in his offtime, Tom relocated to Los Angeles in 1984, where he soon landed the job as the principal oboe soloist on the blockbuster Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom.
Tom's many musical credits in Hollywood include the films Johnny Dangerously (1984) and Rambo: First Blood Part II, Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment, Back to the Future and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1985), The Money Pit (1986), Lethal Weapon (1987), Bird and *Bat21 (1988), and, more recently I Am Legend (2007), Shrek: Forever After (2010), X-Men: First Class (2011), The Amazing Spider Man 2 (2014), Suicide Squad, the feature film reboot Ghostbusters and the TV movie Donald Trump's The Art of the Deal: The Movie (2016). His TV show credits include his QL work, as well as ABC-TV's Mr. Belvedere NBC-TV's Knight Rider, and FOX-TV's The Simpsons, and, also CBS-TV series Magnum, P.I., the long-running NBC-TV/syndicated series Law & Order, and Family Guy. he also provided music for the 48th Annual Grammy Awards in 2006.
